The Cove

Welcome to week two of my south coast photos.

During the week down at Bermagui I went to visit my friend who is now living in Guerilla Bay just near Batemans Bay. From her house it is a few minutes walk down to a secluded cove which is just so stunning.

From afar the cove looks like block colours of browns, greens and greys, but up close the array of colours and textures are stunning and hugely surprising. I took so many photos, but these are just a few.

I was amazed at the colours that nature produces and I can’t wait to spend more time down there. I am always left in awe of how perfect the design of nature is-it leaves human design for dead!

Bermagui Week 1

I was lucky enough to spend a week down at Bermagui recently- a very beautiful part of the world. I was also there last year for a week, but this time I had my SLR so there were some shots I could get that I couldn’t last year. I took so many photos over the week so I have decided to cover some of them over a few weeks, so welcome to week one!

I was lucky enough to get some great sunrise and sunset shots and to visit my friend who has moved from Canberra to Guerilla Bay, just near Batemans Bay and Moruya and explore the cove behind her house-a photographers dream.

This week, my photos are of the sunrise I took just over a newly built rock pool just near where I was staying. I woke up early one morning and instead of going back to sleep I looked out the window and saw a gorgeous pink colour stretching across the horizon. I knew the sun rose near the rock pool so I got up and grabbed my camera and headed off.

At sunrise it was just superb. The water looked like ice- so flat and still. I love the element of newness and surprise that light offers. I was definately rewarded for getting up so early.

Surprises in the City

My favourite place to be is either down the coast or in the city at Circular Quay. I think Sydney is such a beautiful city with the harbour, bridge and Opera House. I also love all the different sorts of people it attracts, from local Sydney-siders to tourists and buskers. With the gorgeous warm weather we have been having I can’t wait to enjoy a glass or two of champagne near the harbour somewhere soon.

These first few shots were taken during the day as I walked around the city enjoying Hyde Park.It was such a beautiful day. I was in the city to see Louise Hawson speak about her photography work ‘52 Suburbs’ and at the end of the talk someone called out my name and it was a friend I did honours with and then worked with at the Attorney General’s. It was great to see her after being out of touch for a while.

We chatted and walked down to Circular Quay and enjoyed the views of the harbour from City Extra and had coffee and a catch up together. I always love when days go from being great to being fantastic! I hope you enjoy these photos.

city 5The Opera House is one of my favourite places to photograph. It has such interesting angles and comes up so well in black and white. I can spend so long just wandering around this fascinating building, seeing something new each time.

Spring Fair

One of my favourite quotes comes from Marcel Proust who said ‘The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.’ So on Saturday I headed out to the Cronulla Spring Fair to see what I could find. I am at Cronulla a lot but the wonderful thing about viewing the world from a camera is that life takes on a much more interesting slant and you see things differently.

The first thing I saw at the Fair was an animal petting farm for kids. One goat was very adamant about getting food from anywhere and was quite happy to launch himself up onto two legs while using the fence to balance to get at the food…case in point! Poor lady…

They weren’t all like that thank goodness, this one was so well behaved and adorable…

Just like this gorgeous little fluffy duckling…

There were lots of kids rides, fairy floss and show bags and of course the clowns…I find them a bit scary still.

I also had the opportunity to hear a wonderful Bolivian band.Their music was so much fun and attracted a big crowd.I definitely want to try and see them again and I bought one of their CDs which was great.

On Sunday I met a friend at Hurstville and as I was getting off the train I heard an all mighty racket of cymbals and drums and when I got up to the ticket machines I saw a group of Chinese dragon dancers. I happened to have my camera with me ‘just in case’ so quickly got a few snaps as they moved through the mall. It seemed very random to me but apparently it was moon cake festival. It was great fun, sort of like a Chinese version of flash mob.

These guys did such a great job and were so energetic. I loved their costumes, especially their pants.
