I love Melbourne and I was lucky enough to head there for a weekend to take some shots around and about the place. I LOVED the graffiti in the alleyways even though it was a little hard to shoot in the pouring rain! Such an eclectic (and at times raunchy) mix of images…I hope you enjoy.

A Bus Ride With A Twist
A few weeks ago I went along with an amateur photography group I am a part of to take photos from the top deck of the city sightseeing bus- the double-decker red one, for those who live in Sydney and have seen it. It was an interesting day because the bus also had commentary on Sydney’s history- stuff I didn’t know, like the Coca-Cola sign at Kings Cross is heritage listed! It was incredibly tricky taking photos from the bus with all the movement and trying to get my camera through the safety bars, but it was really interesting to see the city from above pavement level.
I really love shapes, design and texture so really enjoyed taking shots of buildings with all their angles and glass and colour.
Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend ox

Surprises in the City
My favourite place to be is either down the coast or in the city at Circular Quay. I think Sydney is such a beautiful city with the harbour, bridge and Opera House. I also love all the different sorts of people it attracts, from local Sydney-siders to tourists and buskers. With the gorgeous warm weather we have been having I can’t wait to enjoy a glass or two of champagne near the harbour somewhere soon.
These first few shots were taken during the day as I walked around the city enjoying Hyde Park.It was such a beautiful day. I was in the city to see Louise Hawson speak about her photography work ‘52 Suburbs’ and at the end of the talk someone called out my name and it was a friend I did honours with and then worked with at the Attorney General’s. It was great to see her after being out of touch for a while.
We chatted and walked down to Circular Quay and enjoyed the views of the harbour from City Extra and had coffee and a catch up together. I always love when days go from being great to being fantastic! I hope you enjoy these photos.
After I said goodbye to my friend and as the sun started to set I took my camera out to see what I could capture. I hadn’t taken a tripod with me but I was really happy that I still managed to get some good shots because the light was particularly lovely that night.
The Opera House is one of my favourite places to photograph. It has such interesting angles and comes up so well in black and white. I can spend so long just wandering around this fascinating building, seeing something new each time.
I hope you have all had a wonderful week. Thanks for all the lovely comments. Have a great weekend wherever or whatever you are up to.

A Day in the City
This week my photos come from an outing I went on with an amateur photography group I recently joined. We all headed into Darling Harbour and walked around taking pictures hoping to get some nice shots of the sunset. Unfortunately it was a very miserable day, so no wonderful sunsets, but we still had lots of fun.
I started shooting in colour but because of the dreariness of the sky I shifted to black and white and really enjoyed the effect. I love shooting in black and white because it draws attention to form and texture, making you look harder at your subject than when you shoot in colour. I hope you enjoy these shots of beautiful Sydney.
While I was walking around I noticed how much my perspective changes when I am taking photos. I would normally just stroll through an area enjoying what I could easily see and that would be it. But with photography I am always more inquisitive, looking more carefully from different angles, behind me, noticing the effect of light, tones and textures, shapes and design.
Photography has always been such a great way to see the beauty of life and to appreciate the simple things. I live in such a beautiful and interesting city and it is always so much fun getting out there and capturing it. I hope you have all had a wonderful week and I thank those who left me messages and emails from my last post, very much appreciated.
