He was bought with great love from The Flying Pig Project , which is my new favourite store in Berry. He is a glass blown piece created by a Tasmanian artist James Dodson. The Flying Pig Project is a gorgeous store that sells locally made wears, such as furniture, vases, felted hats etc. While my Ruby Robin was not locally made, all the birds the artist makes are local to the Berry area.
Over the past few years I have met some amazing artists in my travels and found their work and stories to be my greatest inspiration in life and my art. I have had the privilege to study the idea of hope while writing an honours thesis and since then have been amazed and excited about the presence of hope in people’s lives. The artistic act of creating is itself an expression of hope.
As I have visited the blogs of creative people from many different countries I can’t help but feel that the world is okay. As long as people continue to create and express themselves in different art forms, soulful living is a possibility and spaces of hope are created amidst the difficult things happening around us. When people share their art it has the power to inspire hope in others, to inspire creativity in others.
I have had the pleasure of delving into the lives of creative people through their blogs and have been encouraged and inspired. I have to thank Luna Landing a friend of mine, whose blog and life resonate with me and whose links have led me to beautiful worlds of colour, textiles, and imagination. I would also like to thank another good friend who has created a stunning blog called A Track Winding Back based on an oral history project she conducted with war veterans in a nursing home.
I want to be part of the online creative community that I have discovered and to provide others with links to the artists and art that I love and share the bits and pieces of art I am doing myself. I am always amazed and grateful for the way the internet links people where no connection existed before, and all from the comfort of my favourite red lounge.
